Julie MacKay joins as Head of Business Development

We’re thrilled to announce that Julie MacKay is joining Created by Humans as our new Head of Business Development.

Julie’s experience spans the entire content ecosystem, from her early days negotiating translation rights for Malcolm Gladwell and Danielle Steel at Janklow & Nesbit to her most recent role spearheading Audible's global audiobook licensing initiative.

My experience with Julie goes back over a decade; Julie joined Scribd in 2014 and immediately made her mark. Over the next eight years, she established herself as one of the most formidable content strategists in digital publishing, ultimately serving as Head of International Content Acquisition. From expanding our premium content library to leading our international growth strategy, she consistently delivered results that exceeded expectations.

At Created by Humans, Julie will lead our licensing strategy and partnerships with publishers, agencies, and creators, helping us build a world where humans control the future of their creative work.

The team couldn’t be more excited to work with Julie. She brings deep expertise, sharp instincts, and the kind of creative tenacity this moment demands.

Get to know Julie, human to human, below.

Why did you join Created by Humans?

"People I trust and a mission that speaks to me. I'm immensely excited about the potential of AI and eager to be part of its innovation in a thoughtful, ethical way. I was also ready to return to the start-up world—where I could help build something from the ground up and evangelize a product I genuinely believe in. That's why I jumped at the opportunity to join trusted former colleagues from Scribd on this special project."

What human(s) inspire you?

"I am constantly inspired by my mother who faces challenges with grit, grace, and resilience."

If you could wave a magic wand, what would you have AI do for you?

"Marie Kondo my closet."

Who are some of your favorite human creators?

"I love the novels—and minds—of Elena Ferrante, Hilary Mantel, Amor Towles, and Paul Murray."

Where can other humans find you on the weekend?

"In bed with a book, at the beach in MA, or out to dinner in Brooklyn."
